Meta description: Glossier’s Boy Brow turned tinted brow gel into a cult product at $20 a tube. Here’s which drugstore brow gels get the same fluffy, natural hold for less.
Glossier’s Boy Brow basically created a category — a tinted, slightly fibered gel that fills gaps and holds brow hairs up and in place without the stiff, crunchy feel of old-school brow gels. At $20, it’s also a lot for a small tube. Several drugstore brands have built near-identical formulas for a fraction of the price.
The original: Glossier Boy Brow, ~$20
Boy Brow’s appeal is its “your brows but better” effect — a tinted, buildable gel with tiny fibers that thickens and fills sparse spots without looking overdone. It holds brow hairs in place all day without stiffening or flaking.
Glossier Boy Brow is sold at glossier.com and Sephora, not Amazon.
e.l.f. Wow Brow Gel, ~$5
Consistently named the closest drugstore match — a tinted gel with a similar natural, fluffy hold, at a quarter of the price. Amazon reviewers have called it a “holy grail” repeatedly, which says a lot for a product this cheap.

essence Make Me Brow, ~$5
A tinted fiber gel that fills gaps and adds definition with a small spoolie brush similar to Boy Brow’s applicator. It leans slightly more natural and less “your brows but better” glam, which some people actually prefer for daytime wear.

Where the difference actually shows
Boy Brow’s fiber technology is a touch finer, giving a marginally more natural finish up close, and its hold lasts slightly longer through humid or sweaty conditions. The drugstore versions can need a light reapplication by the end of a long day for very unruly brows, where Boy Brow tends to go the full day without a touch-up.
My verdict
Unless you have particularly stubborn or coarse brow hair that needs the extra hold, e.l.f.’s Wow Brow Gel gets remarkably close to Boy Brow’s exact effect for a quarter of the price — and it’s become one of the most repurchased budget brow products for exactly that reason.
